ACT NOW

Mary Gordon, MA

The ACT NOW initiative is designed to elicit inclusive and diverse engagement on key issues at the community-level, including law enforcement input, with the goal of reimagining policing, safety, and community well-being. ACT NOW includes sites that represent a broad diversity of communities. PIRE uses a participatory evaluation approach that is designed to incorporate what is learned from ongoing community and law enforcement engagement into an integrated facilitating meeting (onsite and virtual), while coordinating communication among all project members (law enforcement, community stakeholders, and consultants). To fully engage community and law enforcement participation, PIRE delivers a combination of activities, which includes community meetings, listening sessions, and technical assistance through the development of protocols and resources. Through integrating recommendations from both communities and law enforcement, PIRE identifies project processes that work well and those that are not working well, and provides inclusive recommendations for improvements.
